Workshops are a great way to get a quick overview on a variety of different career-related topics. In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, workshops will be offered in a virtual platform for Spring Quarter 2020. Core Workshops

  • Resume Basics
    Learn the essentials of how to write a resume and cover letter that get you noticed.
  • Interview Basics
    Learn about different types of interviews and strategies to respond to questions and best demonstrate your knowledge and qualifications for the position you want.
  • Cover Letters and Professional Correspondence
    Instruction will center on how to write a cover letter to get you noticed. Thank-you letters, follow-up email and introductory professional writing will also be covered.
  • Hacking the Hidden Job Market
    Eighty percent of available jobs are not advertised! Find out how to access the "hidden job market" through strategic communication with professionals and use of LinkedIn and Handshake.
  • Find a Job or Internship
    This workshop will review how to use Handshake and other resources to find a career position, internship, work study position, or student employment. Internship & Career Center resources will be discussed and we will review tips for applying.

Specialty Workshops

  • Finding a Health-Related Internship
    Intern in a hospital or other setting with patients (dental, optometry, pharmacy, etc.) to see if healthcare is a match for you and to gain a competitive edge. Watch a video on how find a Health-Related Internship here.

  • Prepare for the Fair
    Offered before career fairs. Come learn how to make the most of the career fair. What to expect. What and how to research. Who to see. What to wear.

  • State Job Application Basics
    Interested in a career with the state government? Learn how to find and apply for jobs, and tips to make your application stand out.

  • Federal Job Application Basics
    Interested in a career with the federal government? Learn how to find and apply for jobs, and tips to make your application stand out.

  • Salary Negotiation
    This workshop explores the process of negotiating an offer, such as a salary and benefits, along with how to research salary, create a benchmark salary, advocate your personal values and develop an arsenal of persuasive responses and strategies when negotiating.

  • You Got Skills! How to Highlight Transferable Skills in the Job Search Process
    In this interactive workshop you will discover resources and strategies to identify key skills employers seek, take inventory of your transferable skills, as well as learn how to articulate your skills through accomplishment statements, SAR (Situation, Action, Result) stories and more, to effectively market yourself in the job search process. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring a job/internship posting of interest.

Career Studios

Studios are a great way to develop your cover letter, resume, CV, and your LinkedIn profile with direct access to a career advisor while you work.  Log into Handshake and register for the studio to access the virtual room where you can drop in for a quick question, or stay for the entire time! A career advisor will be there to answer your questions every step of the way. Participants will leave these drop-in sessions with tangible improvements on their job search materials and next steps to continue the work independently. You can register for any of these hour and 20 minute studios scheduled throughout the quarter and drop by the virtual room for support!

  • Resume and Cover Letter Studio
    Need to build your resume or cover letter?  This studio provides the opportunity to work alongside peers and professional staff to create effective materials to land you that next position!

  • LinkedIn Studio
    Bring your laptop/device and create your profile. Learn tips and strategies to develop a strong LinkedIn profile and stand out. Get your LinkedIn profile reviewed.
