Career Fair Virtual Help Room

On fair days, the Career Center will be providing support to both employer representatives and students attending the fair.

  • Where are the virtual fairs hosted?
  • The virtual fairs will be hosted in the Handshake platform. Sessions students sign up for with employer representatives may however redirect to external sources from Handshake. The direct links to a specific fair may be found on our fair page.
  • How does the virtual fair work?
  • The virtual fairs hosted in Handshake operate differently than what you may expect from an in-person fair. The main difference is that students will need to sign up for sessions with employers in advance to meeting with them. Students will create a schedule of meetings with employer representatives and attend the sessions off that schedule throughout the day. Technical Issues

  • Why don't the session launch after I click the Join Video button?
  • After clicking the Join Video button, Handshake will trigger to open a new browser window for the video session. If you have pop up blockers enabled in your browser, make sure that you have allowed Handshake (https://ucdavis.joinhandshake.com/) to open these windows.

  • How do I check in advance if my system will work for the virtual fair?
  • Verify your browser, video and audio settings work on the Handshake platform prior to the fair. Instructions on how to do this are provided in this help article.
  • What are some other general technical advice I may try to resolve an issue?
  •  

    • Use Chrome or Firefox for the best experience
    • Confirm you've granted permission in your browser or app for both audio and video for the Handshake platform
    • Test the video, sound, and microphone by using another platform or application on your device
    • Close all unused tabs and apps
    • Clear the browser cache
    • Reboot or try another device if possible

  • I have other day of fair technical issues, how may I speak with someone in-person?
  • On fair days, you are welcome to drop by the Career Center's Zoom help room starting a half hour before the fair for help with technical questions.
