Reina Gonzalez Smarkel is a proud Aggie and is enthusiastic about advising and supporting STEM students who are discovering and working towards their academic, professional and personal goals. Just before the Great Recession, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and a minor in Education at the University of California, Davis and joined the Student Affairs staff in an administrative support role. To grow and enhance career options, she pursued a working professionals’ Master of Arts in Higher Education Leadership at California State University, Sacramento. Prior to career advising, Reina was the undergraduate advisor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering for 7 years, during which internship and job opportunities went from initially sparse to widely abundant. Reina transitioned to the Internship and Career Center in 2017, first as an Engineering and Physical Sciences advisor and more recently as a Health and Biological Sciences advisor. She loves working with the UC Davis campus and spending time in nature with family and friends in and around her hometown of Sacramento.
