Organization of the Month

Yolo County SPCA

The Yolo County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or YCSCPA, was founded in 1974 by a small group of dedicated people committed to improving the lives of animals in the area. Through the years,  Yolo County SPCA has grown and expanded its programs to help better serve the animals, and people, of Yolo County. Through adoption events, public education and outreach, and active promotion of the benefits of spaying and neutering, Yolo County SPCA strives to provide a better future for the people and pets in our community. With the goal in mind, Yolo County SPCA also has a Thrift Store, and they hope to increase awareness and raise money to help fund our animal rescue programs and services.

Volunteer Opportunities

Placement Volunteers (Must be at least 10 years old)

Involvement in animal placement/animal adoption events is one easy and rewarding way to volunteer for Yolo County SPCA. Volunteers sit with adoptable dogs at the adoption site, help with set-up and clean up of the event, and provide general assistance. SPCA holds adoption/placement events at the Davis Petco most Saturdays, and volunteer help is needed from 11:30 am until 4:00 pm. Volunteers are not required to help all day, nor every week.

Thrift Store (Must be 16 years old)

Thrift Store volunteers' duties range from processing donations, assisting the public, and helping with the output and organization of clothes. Since the Thrift Store is their main source of funding, volunteers are extremely important. Volunteer shifts are not assigned but scheduled by you and generally must be longer than one hour.
