Microfinance is a powerful self-help support tool that allows the very poor to reduce the day-to-day uncertainties of cash management. Whether it is saving money or gaining access to credit, vital needs can be met and opportunities pursued.

But financial services alone are not enough to help the very poor climb out of poverty. Freedom from Hunger has developed and promoted "value-added" or "integrated" microfinance programs that pair financial services with education and health protection.

Our education programs engage women at their microfinance group meetings to promote better health, nutrition, business and money management. Using dialogue, story, song, demonstrations and pictures, women with little or no schooling learn practical skills to build futures of health, hope and dignity.

We have two opportunities - volunteer drivers and kitchen aide/servers. Drivers deliver a freshly-made hot meal to elderly homebound any day from Monday through Friday. The regular hours needed for driving volunteers are from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Kitchen aide/servers assist at our meal sites to help pack delivery meals and to serve meals at the senior center. The hours needed for kitchen volunteers range at our different sites between 9:00am-12:30pm. We ask volunteers to try to commit to helping regularly - daily, once a week, twice a month, or a substitute as needed. All volunteers must be 18 or older. Driving volunteers complete a basic orientation and training, and typically drive their own vehicle to make deliveries. We also provide for a background check and make copies of car insurance and drivers licenses. We do not currently have volunteer opportunities on evenings or weekends.
