Descriptions: The American Cancer Society is dedicated to conquering cancer and minimizing the burden of those who currently have cancer. Descriptions: Citizens Who Care serves the elderly and their caregivers in Davis and Woodland with a variety of programs. Volunteers can participate in the following programs: Convalescent Hospital Visiting Program: A convalescent hospital volunteer is matched with a resident whom they visit regularly. Within this program we have a pet visitation program. Volunteers can bring THEIR well-behaved pet to the facility for regular visits. Volunteers are asked to volunteer for an hour a week. In-Home Program: A volunteer is matched with a client whose caregiver is in need of a break and/or visit with an isolated senior in their home. Volunteers are asked to visit weekly for two hours. Volunteers for this program must be able to commit to at least six months of service. Saturday Club Program: This is a social program that is held at the Davis Senior Center two Saturdays of the month from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Volunteers can commit to long-term volunteering, or can choose to volunteer on a limited basis; even once is allowed. Volunteers must be scheduled. Volunteers are assigned to assist clients throughout the program. Staff includes a program director, and a health aide for clients in need of hands on assistance. Descriptions: Meals on Wheels Yolo County provides fresh hot lunches for senior citizens. Over 325 daily meals are prepared Monday-Friday for home delivery and congregate lunches. We have opportunities in Winters, Woodland, West Sacramento, and Davis. Such opportunities include: Meals on Driver and/or runner-delivering meals directly to senior's homes, Main Kitchen Aide, office aide, special one-time opportunities, meal time receptionist at each site, kitchen and serving assistant at each site, musician and singers for lunch time music, social media and or marketing gurus, and volunteer recruitment assistants. Those interested in driving a short meal delivery route must have a valid CA driver's license and current auto insurance. Driver shifts start between 10:30-10:45 and last for 40 minutes. Drivers can share a route, and can come in once every week or so, or can be assigned a daily/weekly route. We require a background check for all drivers and runners going to senior homes. This report can be completed in less than 5 minutes, will take place during a 30 minute orientation, and is free to you. Lunchtime reception and serving volunteers can come in regularly or on a drop-in basis with advance notice. Kitchen aides can volunteer anytime between 9:00 and 12:30.
