Workshops are a great way to get a quick overview on a variety of different career-related topics. Currently workshops are being offered in a virtual platform, either as live or recorded events. Log in to Handshake to register for live workshops. Links to recorded workshops can be found below.

Core Workshops

  • Resume Writing for Students and Recent Alumni
    Learn the essentials of how to write a resume that gets you noticed by employers. This workshop will cover how you can market your skills, education and experience, and how to tailor your document for your next role.
  • Interview Basics
    Learn about different types of interviews and strategies to respond to questions and best demonstrate your knowledge and qualifications for the position you want.
  • Cover Letters and Professional Correspondence
    Learn to craft a cover letter that highlights your interest in a position and the transferable skills that make you the ideal candidate. This workshop will also go over email etiquette in the job and internship search
  • Networking
    Networking is an important approach in the job and internship search. In this workshop, learn what the definition of networking is (hint: it''s about relationship building), where to tap into your network, and how to conduct informational interviews with professionals. This workshop will also explain what the hidden job market is and how building your network through strategic communication can open the door to many opportunities.
  • Find a Job or Internship
    This workshop will review how to use Handshake and other resources to find a career position, internship, work study position, or student employment. Internship and Career Center resources will be discussed and we will review tips for applying.

  • Finding a Health-Related Internship
    Intern in a hospital or other setting with patients (dental, optometry, pharmacy, etc.) to see if healthcare is a match for you and to gain a competitive edge.
  • Prepare for the Fair
    Offered before career fairs. Come learn how to make the most of the career fair. What to expect. What and how to research. Who to see. What to wear.
  • State Job Application Basics
    Interested in a career with the state government? Learn how to find and apply for jobs, and tips to make your application stand out.
  • Federal Job Application Basics
    Interested in a career with the federal government? Learn how to find and apply for jobs, and tips to make your application stand out.
  • Salary Negotiation
    This workshop explores the process of negotiating an offer, such as a salary and benefits, along with how to research salary, create a benchmark salary, advocate your personal values and develop an arsenal of persuasive responses and strategies when negotiating.
  • You Got Skills! How to Highlight Transferable Skills in the Job Search Process
    In this interactive workshop you will discover resources and strategies to identify key skills employers seek, take inventory of your transferable skills, as well as learn how to articulate your skills through accomplishment statements, SAR (Situation, Action, Result) stories and more, to effectively market yourself in the job search process. Workshop participants are encouraged to bring a job/internship posting of interest.

Student Organizations Workshop Request

The ICC provides workshops to UC Davis student organizations, clubs, fraternities, sororities, or residence halls Monday-Thursday from 6-9pm during the academic year (September - June). Any student organization that would like to host a workshop should fill out this request form.
