Pay close attention to your privacy settings so personal information is not shared in professional networks.

Social media websites can also be used strategically in your job search. For example, LinkedIn allows you to search for open positions in their “Jobs” menu tab, and provides networking opportunities within and beyond your personal network. You can also use a Twitter account (most likely separate from your personal account) to tweet at or about companies and organizations in your career field of interest. For more detailed information about using social media, visit our social media networking page.

Key Resources:

LinkedIn – for professionals and those seeking professional connections.
Twitter – can be used to build a public professional identity.
Facebook – primarily a personal and social site, but some people successfully use it to network within particular job industries. UC Davis has an active jobs and internships group.
